POSITION SUMMARY

As part of the Marketing team, the Category Manager – Other Tobacco Products will maximize gross profit by selecting suppliers, evaluating new products, negotiating pricing, and planning marketing strategies for the Other Tobacco Products Category.  The Category Manager supports the company goals by focusing on personal accountability, customer service and work efficiency.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Determines annual unit and gross profit growth by developing annual market plans and coordinating implementation with the field; analyzes trends and results.
  • Selects vendors, negotiates costs and terms for products and develops schematics by applying category management principles in accordance with the department’s strategic objectives.
  • Maintains project schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems.
  • Increases sales revenues by developing promotional concepts and overlay programs; develops category plans.
  • Establishes and monitors gross margins by forecasting and developing annual sales quotas; projecting expected sales volume and profit for existing and new products and determining placement and promotions.
  • Defrays cost of equipment, advertising and promotional programs by negotiating allowances and partnering with manufacturers.
  • Serves market segments and specific product needs by responding to field requests for market or product specific materials.
  • Projects and measures category sales and gross profit results by developing and maintaining records of item cost, retail and gross margin dollars.
  • Maintains external vendor relations by providing direction, guidance and information; resolving concerns.
  • Recommends changes in products, service and policy by evaluating results and competitive developments.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Leads the integration of internal and external data to drive better understanding on decisions at the business level.
  • Natural inquisitiveness to exploring data, mining the data and looking for insights to drive business decisions.


To properly perform the duties of this position as outlined above, it is essential that the individual be able to meet the following physical demands:

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time & operate computer keyboard for data entry.
  • Ability to position self to maintain work space and files including under the desk.
  • Ability to move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate to associates, attorneys, landlords and other external customers in a manner consistent with business needs. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Ability to observe computer screen accurately for data entry.
  • Ability to use fax machines and copiers.
  • Ability to exchange information for support for telephone communications. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines, interruptions, and stressful situations.
  • Ability to sit in a vehicle for long periods of time.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time within the Division.

REQUIREMENTS

  • College Background Preferred but not Mandatory
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Merchandising Experience or Related Work a Plus
  • Excellent  interpersonal skills
  • May require travel up to 30% of the time within the Division and possess a valid driver’s license
  • Ability/capacity to work under pressure.
  • Works well independently and in team settings
  • Possess intermediate skillset in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • Strong communication skills to read, listen, understand and communicate information and ideas in a clear and understandable manner, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to process information including gathering, assessing, organizing, auditing and verifying data.
  • Working Conditions: Normal office environment with little or no exposure to adverse working conditions. Work may occasionally include long hours, week-ends, and holidays.
