DESCRIPTION

The Enterprise Architect is a Director role, reporting to the Senior Director – Global Enterprise Architect of Alimentation Couche-Tard (ACT). This role is globally responsible for delivering an architecture that supports the most efficient and secure IT environment meeting the company's current and future business needs.
The Enterprise Architect is a person with deep experience in IT technology and architecture. Understanding of business and how technology can drive it is a critical success factor for this role.  Proven ability to increase efficiency and speed of business initiatives is also required.  Understanding of non-functional requirements and the ability to specify these are equally important. The architect is also expected to be able to define design and integration standards and do code review as needed.
The role requires an ability to share and communicate ideas clearly, both orally and in writing, to executive staff, business sponsors, and technical resources in clear concise language. This is a specialist within his/her field and recognized as such also outside the company. The Enterprise Architect has the knowledge and personal appearance to represent the company in public settings like conferences, standardization bodies and trade shows. The architect should also be able to define the technical curriculum for the IT organization and the communication and influence skills to drive continuous evolution of the collective expertise of the IT team members.

RESPONSIBILITIES

This role is responsible for the overall IT strategy and is overall responsible for creating roadmaps for the different functional areas in the IT portfolio. This includes:

  • IT strategy and roadmaps: The role has the long-term strategic responsibility for the company's IT systems, including avoiding vendor and technology lock-in. This is put into actions through defining and maintaining roadmaps for the portfolio of systems and services at all times.
  • Architecture initiatives and work: This role is responsible for driving the Global Architecture Board and maintaining the necessary governance mechanisms for good IT architectural design and implementation. This includes ensuring that a given technical solution is adequate in the total Enterprise portfolio and fit for the needs, and that projects do not duplicate functionality or diverge from each other and business and IT strategies. An important part of this role is to know the business for which the architecture is being developed.
  • Facilitating change and innovation: This IT leadership role requires an interest in new ways of driving the business, how technology can support in this, and what specific initiatives are needed to get there. This includes coming up with initiatives to explore new technology and learn. This includes representing ACT in public settings, both to learn but also to present and discuss on behalf of the company.
  • People Management and organizational development: This role manages a small but specialized team with a large responsibility. Maintaining a skilled team with high motivation and ability to deliver is a key responsibility of this role.
  • Budget and administration: The Enterprise Architect is responsible for establishing and evaluating Total Cost of Ownership models and other metrics for evaluating economic implications of technology options including ROI and other typical measures. Normal financial and non-financial administrative tasks are also expected of the role.

QUALIFICATIONS

The Enterprise Architect has considerable experience within IT supplier management, procurement and project management. In addition, we expect

  • Higher IT education, such as MBA, Master of Science or Business education combined with IT experience
  • At least 10 years’ experience in an IT role development, IT Operations or other hands on roles
  • Technology advisor experience
  • Domain knowledge of the one of more of the core business areas; retail, logistic, fuel, sales, ecommerce, marketing is preferred
  • Experience with architectural reviews and architectural development with methods like ATAM
  • Strong code review skills, knowledge and understanding of design patterns
  • Experience in establishing KPI’s for IT services and software
  • Experience with security and compliance including PCI and SOX
  • Systems thinking - the ability to see how parts interact with the whole
  • Communication skills, both written and spoken. Ability to explain complex technical issues to non-technical people
  • Knowledge of software quality models and experience in their implementation, like ISO 9626 or equivalent.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of hardware, software, application, and systems engineering
  • Knowledge of financial modelling as it pertains to IT investment
  • Knowledge of operational frameworks like ITIL or MOF
  • Knowledge of testing strategies and frameworks
  • Team Management experience, and strong leadership skills
