Director of Communications, ACT/Circle K Global Communications

The Director of Communications will be a key leader in the development of the global communications and public relations strategy for a publicly traded, Fortune 200 global company. The Director will promote and protect the Couche-Tard and Circle K brands and reputations as a one of the world’s preferred destination for convenience and fuel by telling the company’s growth story on its performance, innovations, and impact across key markets.

In particular, the Director will lead U.S. media and public relations and issues management, ensuring clear, authentic messaging on key themes, leadership and company news and trends to showcase the business. The Director will also be responsible for communication and PR leadership for the U.S. business units as well as working with Commercial Optimization (Fuel and Real Estate) and Marketing on their global internal and external communication needs. The Director will be flexible and ready to jump in to collaborate with team members across divisions including global finance, people, marketing, technology, and operation teams to promote key global and local initiatives, identify trends and news-making opportunities that drive the ACT narrative to all stakeholders.

The position will be located in our Charlotte, North Carolina service center.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversees U.S. media relations and public relations for Circle K, including the development of key messages, materials and key stakeholder relationships and develops strategies for generating news coverage.
  • Ensures outreach to news media is coordinated with broader business communications strategies and initiatives.
  • Maintains a deep understanding of the external market and identifies issues developing both internally and externally, particularly in the U.S., that have the potential to generate public interest and affect the organization’s reputation.
  • Recommends and oversees implementation of internal and external communication strategies to support key functions of the business in particular Global Commercial Optimization and Marketing, whose leadership is based in Charlotte.
  • Provide counsel and support to business units on local news developments and issue management as well as communication management of key local initiatives
  • Works with teams overseeing crisis management and communications, helping functional teams and business units manage communications internally and externally and reputation management
  • Be flexible and prepared to work on different communication and PR initiatives as they arise
  • Manage relationships with U.S. public relations agencies

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field or related experience
    • At least 8-10 years of experience in media relations and/or corporate communications.
    • Media Relations experience in fuel and/or retail environment preferred
    • Highly experienced in writing and editing and other content development such as video production, strong verbal and communication skills
    • Experience representing an organization as an official spokesperson.
    • Experience handling confidential information and working with executive leadership
    • Proven ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Proven ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously and work across multiple divisions.
    • Willing to travel up to 15% of the time for business purposes.
    • French language skills a definite plus
